Buffalo's goaltending picture

For the past several years, the Buffalo Sabres haven't had to worry about their goaltending situation -- they were simply going to throw Ryan Miller in the crease, and he'd get the job done.

Consecutive Wins For Second-string Goaltender
The Sabres won two games this weekend with backup netminder Jhonas Enroth in goal for both victories and named the first star in each game: 1-0 over the Flyers on Saturday (Enroth's first shutout of the season) and 3-1 against the Lightning on Sunday. Enroth is the first Buffalo goaltender other than Ryan Miller to start and win consecutive team games while allowing no more than one goal in each game since March 4-6, 2009, when Patrick Lalime posted 5-1 wins over the Canadiens and the Coyotes.

Enroth's First Three Shutouts Are All 1-0 Wins
Buffalo goaltender Jhonas Enroth recorded his first shutout of the season and the third shutout of his NHL career with a 1-0 victory over the Flyers on Saturday. That final score is a familiar one for Enroth, because his other shutouts were also 1-0 wins for the Sabres (March 30, 2011 vs. the Rangers, Nov. 18, 2011 at Carolina). Enroth is the fourth goaltender in NHL history whose first three shutouts were all 1-0 wins. The others were Hal Winkler (Rangers/Bruins, 1926-27), Bob Essensa (Jets, 1989 to 1990) and Antero Niittymaki (Flyers, 2005 to 2007).

Enroth Ends Winless Streak
From Elias: Sabres backup goaltender Jhonas Enroth ended the longest current winless streak by an NHL netminder with his 3-1 victory over the Rangers. It was Enroth's first win since Nov. 26, 2011, when he beat the Capitals 5-1 in Buffalo. Enroth, who was winless in his last 13 decisions (0-10-3) until his victory on Tuesday, had a streak of 14 consecutive decisions in which he earned points for the Sabres come to an end only two weeks before his winless streak began (13-0-1 from February to November 2011). Enroth's winless streak was the second-longest in Sabres history, one short of the 14 straight winless decisions that Dave Dryden (Ken's older brother) recorded spanning the 1971-72 and 1972-73 seasons.
