Tavares Hits The 20-goal Mark, Faster Than Ever Before
From Elias: John Tavares became the second NHL player to reach the 20-goal mark this season (Steven Stamkos was the first) when he scored the tie-breaking third-period goal that was the game-winner in the Islanders' 3-2 victory at Washington. Tavares reached the 20-goal mark in his and the team's 33rd game of the season. That's the fewest team games that any Islanders player has needed to get to 20 goals in one season since 1996-1997, when Zigmund Palffy did so in the team's 29th game. Tavares has scored 20 or more goals in each of his four seasons in the NHL. He reached the 20-goal plateau in the 70th game of his rookie year and it's taken him fewer games to do so in each season since then: 52, 48, and 33.

Tavares Scores Two Power Play Goals In 30 Seconds
From Elias: John Tavares scored two power play goals in a 30-second span in the third period to break open a game that had been tied at 2-2 and send the Islanders on their way to a 5-2 win over the Capitals. Tavares is the third player in Islanders history to score two power play goals no more than 30 seconds apart in one game. The others were Hall-of-Famers Clark Gillies (10 seconds on March 29, 1975 vs. the Rangers) and Bryan Trottier (29 seconds on Feb. 13, 1982 vs. the Flyers).
