Doan out with upper-body injury

DETROIT -- Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan has been ruled out for Game 4 Tuesday night in their playoff series against the Detroit Red Wings.

"[Doing] better, he will not play tonight," Coyotes coach Dave Tippett said Tuesday after his team's pregame skate at Joe Louis Arena. "Hopefully we'll get him back in Friday."

Game 5 is Friday in Phoenix, with an extra off day between games, which will benefit Doan, who has an upper-body injury.

Tippett said forward Vernon Fiddler would replace Doan in the lineup after missing Game 3 with a shoulder injury.

Doan was at Joe Louis Arena for treatment Tuesday morning, but did not skate. He skated briefly before Monday's practice.

Doan was injured in Game 3 Sunday when he stumbled over Red Wings goalie Jimmy Howard and went crashing into the boards during the second period.

The Coyotes lead the first-round series 2-1.
