Monday, June 10 Updated: June 10, 10:52 PM ET League reviewing Fischer cross-check By Wayne Drehs ESPN.com RALEIGH, N.C. -- The vicious cross-check Jiri Fischer of the Detroit Red Wings put on Carolina's Tommy Westlund Monday night in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals will be reviewed, NHL officials said after the game. The hit happened in the third period, with Fischer using both of his hands to slam his stick into Westlund's mouth. Though Westlund immediately fell to the ice and started bleeding, no penalty was called. Westlund required five stitches and lost the crown to one of his teeth. "He's fine," Carolina coach Paul Maurice said. "I don't know how many teeth he has got left. But he's fine." With the league reviewing the hit, there is a chance that Fischer, a defenseman who logged 20 minutes Monday, could be suspended for Thursday's Game 5. "He just came over and clubbed me right in the face," Westland said. "I don't know what else to say." |
