Bure capitalizes on Turco's overtime mistake

DALLAS (AP) -- Marty Turco got caught out of his net twice,
costing the Dallas Stars one point in the standings.

Valeri Bure scored 3:21 into overtime, after Turco was out of
the net playing the puck, as the Florida Panthers handed the Stars
their first home loss this season, 3-2.

Bure had the puck in the right corner as Turco skated out. Turco
tried to recover, but he was too late as Bure skated around the
back of the net and stuffed in his second goal of the season.

''That last goal was certainly a mistake on my part,'' Turco
said. ''You don't want to get caught too far in the corner. Tonight
it got away from me. I need to clean my act up.''

Turco also was guilty of a poor clearing pass in the first
period that led to a goal by Kristian Huselius, who also had an

''There were a couple out there that we'd like to have back,''
Stars coach Dave Tippett said. ''If a goalie makes a mistake behind
the net, there's not a lot of help to bail him out.''

Brenden Morrow's shorthanded goal with 8:52 remaining in
regulation lifted the Stars into a 2-2 tie.

Morrow took possession in the neutral zone, and his first
attempt from just inside the blue line was blocked by Florida
defenseman Ivan Majesky. Morrow fired again, beating Jani Hurme
from the outside edge of the left circle for Morrow's fourth goal
with 28 seconds left on a Panthers power play.

The Stars held a 44-13 shots advantage, 13-0 in the third period
and 5-1 in overtime. The Panthers' last shot until Bure's overtime
winner was at 13:22 of the second period.

''That's the first game I've coached when my team didn't have a
shot in a period,'' Florida coach Mike Keenan said. ''They put us
on our heels. We totally panicked.''

But Hurme's 42 saves kept the Panthers in the game.

''He was unbelievable,'' Bure said. ''If not for him, the game
would have been over a long time ago.''

Dallas had won its first three home games and was unbeaten in
four games (3-0-1).

Ivan Novoseltsev had the other goal for Florida, which was
winless in three games (0-2-1).

Hurme was replacing Roberto Luongo, who started the first 10
games of the season, and Hurme earned more playing time with the

''He was a wall out there for us,'' Novoseltsev said.

Ulf Dahlen scored on the power play for the Stars.

Stars center Jason Arnott played his first game since sustaining
a high ankle sprain in the opener at Colorado on Oct. 9. Arnott
missed nine games during his recovery.

Huselius took advantage of the faulty clearing effort by Turco
with his fourth goal 3:42 after the opening faceoff. Bure
intercepted the puck and passed to Huselius, who fired a shot into
the open net while Turco was caught out of position.

Novoseltsev's second goal of the season made it 2-0 at 13:22 on
the rebound of Huselius's shot from the right circle.

Dahlen's backhand rebound 9 seconds after the start of a power
play cut Florida's lead to 2-1 at 16:20 of the second period.
