BOSTON (AP) -- The Boston Bruins had waited a long time for a
"I felt like I should have stopped that one," Penguins goalie
Jean-Sebastien Aubin said. "It was weird. I saw it, then lost it,
and the next thing I knew it was in the net."
Bergeron scored a rare power-play goal for Boston when his wrist
shot went over Aubin's shoulder. The Bruins had scored only four
goals in their previous 62 power-play opportunities.
"We have urgency and nothing else, but two points is acceptable
right now," Bruins goalie Andrew Raycroft said. "If we had come
out here tonight and lost 2-1 or 3-1, it would have been all for
naught after our effort last night."
The last time the Bruins won two straight was Nov. 14-15, when
they beat Columbus and Vancouver on back-to-back nights. Boston
blanked Detroit 3-0 Wednesday night on the road.
After Bergeron's goal, Penguins coach Ed Olczyk screamed at the
officials because Konstantin Koltsov was penalized for roughing.
"I know what I saw, but it obviously wasn't the same as the
referees see," Olczyk said. "Our guys deserved much better
"It is nice to turn things around because December was a tough
month for us," O'Donnell said. "Detroit was easy to get up for,
but tonight was more difficult to get up for mentally."
Tom Kostopolous appeared to put Pittsburgh ahead 3:04 into the
third period when the puck bounced in off his shoulder, but the
goal was reviewed and disallowed.
Martin Strbak scored on one of Pittsburgh's 17 second-period
shots to tie it 1-1 at 6:29. He converted a pass from Brian
Holzinger on a two-on-one and beat Raycroft.
The goal snapped a shutout streak of 121:14 for Raycroft, who is
3-6-5 in his last 14 decisions. Raycroft assisted on the go-ahead
goal and made 31 saves for the Bruins.
O'Donnell gave Boston a 1-0 lead when he scored his first goal
of the season, beating Aubin at 8:23 of the first period. O'Donnell
has six points this season, but four in the last three games.
Steve McKenna had an assist for the Penguins, who have scored
nine goals in their last six games and allowed 23 in that stretch.
Knuble added an empty-net goal with 31.7 seconds remaining.
Boston's P.J. Axelsson sustained a knee injury in the third
period and did not return. ... Boston sent Doug Doull to Providence
of the AHL and recalled Colton Orr. ... Boston's Joe Thornton has
23 points in 24 games and Sergei Samsonov has 23 points in 23 games
against the Penguins. They each had an assist. ... Pittsburgh,
coming off a win at New Jersey, has won consecutive games twice
this season. ... The Bruins improved to 6-6-7-1 at home. ... The
Penguins have allowed 149 goals, the most in the NHL. ... The
Bruins are 55-16-6 all-time at home against Pittsburgh.
