Buffalo (19-25-5-1) at Carolina (16-22-9-2) 1:30 pm EST

RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) -- The Carolina Hurricanes look to snap a three-game home losing streak Sunday afternoon when they host the Buffalo Sabres.

The Hurricanes are winless at RBC Center since a 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers on January 8 (0-3-1-0). They have lost three of their last four overall and are 2-5-1-0 in their last eight.

Carolina lost to the New York Islanders, 3-2, Friday as Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette faced his old team for the first time. Laviolette was fired from the Islanders in June, but replaced Paul Maurice behind Carolina's bench on December 15.

The Hurricanes are 8-10-1-0 with Laviolette at the helm. Defenseman Sean Hill had a goal and an assist for Carolina, while captain Ron Francis became the third player in NHL history to play 1,700 games. Gordie Howe (1,767) and Mark Messier (1,727) are the others. Francis is one goal shy of Maurice Richard (544) for 20th on the all-time goal-scoring list.

Buffalo is 1-3-0 on a five-game road trip that ends Sunday. It has scored only seven goals on the journey.

The Sabres have only one win in their last eight road games and fell to 8-16-2-0 away from home Saturday with a 2-1 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. Ales Kotalik scored the lone goal for Buffalo, which has just one winning road trip this season.

Carolina is 1-2-0 in the season series after a 2-1 win over Buffalo on December 20. Francis and Bret Hedican each scored.
