DENVER (Ticker) -- The Colorado Avalanche try to extend their unbeaten streak against the Carolina Hurricanes to 13 games when they meet on Tuesday at the Pepsi Center.

The Avalanche are 9-0-3 in the series since a 3-2 road loss on February 9, 1996, when the Hurricanes were based in Hartford.

Colorado is 4-0-2 at home against them since a 4-2 loss to the Whalers in December 15, 1995.

The Avalanche, who have not lost back-to-back games since Decmeber 17 and 19, are coming off a 4-3 overtime setback at Anaheim on Friday.

Steve Konowalchuk and Joe Sakic scored third-period goals to give Colorado a 3-2 lead before Sergei Fedorov tied it with 46 seconds left and defenseman Niclas Havelid netted the game-winner with 1:21 left in the extra period.

Peter Forsberg also scored for Colorado, which had a six-game unbeaten streak (4-0-2) snapped.

The Hurricanes, who are opening a three-game road trip, are coming off a disappointing 4-4 tie at Detroit on Saturday. Defenseman Sean Hill and Radim Vrbata each contributed a goal and an assist for Carolina, which blew leads of 3-0 and 4-1.
