NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Rangers try to avoid a seventh loss in eight games when they host the Washington Capitals at Madison Square Garden on Friday in a matchup of two teams who have been unloading players.

The Rangers are 1-5-0-1 in their last seven contests, including 0-3-0-1 in their last four.

On Thursday, New York lost at Boston, 3-1, with Jaromir Jagr producing the Rangers' only goal in the third period.

In recent weeks, the Rangers have traded Petr Nedved, Jusi Markkanen, Brian Leetch and Alexei Kovalev, while the Capitals have dealt Jagr, Sergei Gonchar, Robert Lang, Michael Nylander, Peter Bondra and Steve Konowalchuk.

The Capitals have lost four of their last five games, including a 1-0 setback to Florida on Tuesday.

Washington failed to get any of its 29 shots past Roberto Luongo. The Capitals' Olaf Kolzig made 26 saves.

In the teams' only prior meeting this season, Washington posted a 2-1 triumph at Madison Square Garden on January 28.
