NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New Jersey Devils try to avoid a third loss in four games when they visit the lowly New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Monday.

The Devils have lost two of their last three contests, both to Philadelphia, including a 2-1 road setback on Saturday.

Scott Gomez scored the lone goal for the Devils, who are nine points behind the Flyers in the Atlantic Division but have played three fewer games. New Jersey is tied with Montreal for sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 85 points.

The Rangers, who dealt many of their marquee players before the trade deadline, are 2-5-0-2 in their last nine contests and are coming off a 3-2 overtime loss at Florida on Saturday.

Sandy McCarthy scored on a power play and rookie defenseman Fedor Tyutin scored his first NHL goal for the Rangers, who blew a 2-0 lead late in the second period. Jamie McLennan made 29 saves in his first action since being acquired from Calgary on March 6.

The Devils are 2-1-1 against the Rangers this season, going 1-0-1 here.
