RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - The Carolina Panthers host the New Jersey Devils on Saturday in a matchup of teams heading in opposite directions.

Carolina, which has won four of its last five games, improved to 2-0 on its five-game homestand with Thursday's 2-1 triumph over Columbus. Captain Rod Brind'Amour scored a pair of second-period goals and Martin Gerber made 25 saves for the Hurricanes, who improved to 11-4 at home.

Meanwhile, the Devils are not playing nearly as well, having gone 1-2-3 in their last six contests.

New Jersey is coming off Thursday's 3-2 overtime loss to Atlanta in which Martin Brodeur made 32 saves but surrendered the game-winner with five seconds to go in the extra session.

Scott Gomez and Alexander Mogilny scored for the Devils, who have tallied three goals or fewer in nine straight games.

The Hurricanes took the first meeting of the season series, a 6-1 road triumph on October 15, behind two goals from Brind'Amour and a goal and two assists from Matt Cullen.

Brodeur allowed five goals on 19 shots before being pulled after two periods.
