DENVER (Ticker) -- The Colorado Avalanche hope to begin their five-game homestand on a winning note Monday when they face the lowly Chicago Blackhawks.

Colorado has alternated wins and losses over its last seven games and owns a one-point lead over the Vancouver Canucks (40-29-7) for sixth place in a crowded Western Conference playoff race.

The Avalanche trail the Northwest Division-leading Calgary Flames by four points and missed a chance to gain ground in the division standings after a 6-3 loss to the Flames on Friday.

Captain Joe Sakic tallied twice, but Colorado squandered a 2-1 advantage after one period and fell to 3-3-1 against its division rival.

The Blackhawks dropped a 5-2 decision to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.

Kyle Calder tallied in the contest, increasing his team-leading points total to 53.
