DENVER (Ticker) -- The Colorado Avalanche look to improve their playoff position when they host the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.

The seventh-place Avalanche are one point behind sixth-place Edmonton, one point ahead of eighth-place San Jose and just three points ahead of ninth-place Vancouver.

Colorado has lost two of its last thee games, including Wednesday's 2-1 loss against San Jose. Andrew Brunette gave the Avalanche the lead in the opening period, only to see the team surrender goals in each of the next two periods.

The Blues broke a franchise record by losing their 12th straight game Thursday - a 3-0 defeat against Nashville.

St. Louis, which tied the previous mark of 11 straight losses earlier this season, has the worst record in the Western Conference.
