BOSTON (Ticker) -- For the second straight night, the Montreal Canadiens will try to close in on clinching a playoff berth. However, this time they are rewarded with an easier opponent.

The Canadiens hope to creep closer to the postseason and continue their domination of the Boston Bruins when the teams square off for the eighth and final time this season on Thursday.

Montreal had won nine of its last 10 games prior to dropping a 3-1 decision to Buffalo on Wednesday. Cristobal Huet made 31 saves and defenseman Sheldon Souray scored the lone goal for the Canadiens, who remain two points ahead of Tampa Bay for seventh place in the Eastern Conference.

The Canadiens will try to bounce back against a Bruins team that they have beaten in six of the first seven encounters this season. Montreal has allowed a meager total of 10 goals in the season series, including three shutout victories.

Boston has lost three straight overtime games following Tuesday's 4-3 setback vs. Ottawa. Defenseman Brad Stuart tied it with 18 seconds left in regulation, but Tim Thomas allowed a goal less than a minute into overtime as the Bruins lost for the 16th time in 20 games.
