RALEIGH, North Carolina (Ticker) - The Carolina Hurricanes are the defending Eastern Conference champions. The young Pittsburgh Penguins are hoping someday to earn that title.

The two clubs meet on Saturday and enter the contest under vastly different circumstances.

Slumping Pittsburgh was handed its fourth consecutive defeat by the Ottawa Senators, 6-3, on Friday.

Michel Ouellet, Evgeni Malkin and Maxime Talbot scored for the Penguins, who were badly outshot, 44-17. Pittsburgh netminder Marc-Andre Fleury allowed six goals while making 38 stops.

The Hurricanes come off an impressive 5-0 drubbing of the Washington Capitals on Thursday.

Cam Ward registered his first career shutout after making 20 saves. Erik Cole had a monster game for the Hurricanes, getting the hat trick while Eric Staal had the other tally and Scott Walker had two assists.

Cole has been heating up after a slow start. After getting just one tally in his first 11 games, Cole has five goals in his last six games.
