Dahlen's three points help Stars on road

DETROIT (AP) -- Jason Williams was just trying to create space for Brendan Shanahan or Luc Robitaille when he scored the tying goal for the Detroit Red Wings.

Williams scored a power-play goal with 6:19 left in regulation to give the Red Wings a 3-3 tie with the Dallas Stars on Sunday night.

Williams tipped in Shanahan's pass from the bottom of the left circle while Stars' forward Brenden Morrow was off for hooking.

"I just tried to get myself in front of the net,'' said Williams, who also had an assist. "I just got my stick on it. I just tried to tie the defense up so Shanny or Luc could walk out (in front). They left me open.''

Nicklas Lidstrom and Pavel Datsyuk also scored for the Red Wings.

Ulf Dahlen gave Dallas a 3-2 lead 7:30 into the second period with a power-play goal. He put in a rebound for his second goal of the game while Henrik Zetterberg was in the penalty box for holding.

Dahlen also added as assist.

"It's always hard to get a point against Detroit, they're a good team,'' Dahlen said. "But we wanted to get the win after we went ahead.''

Stars coach Dave Tippett knew his team was in trouble by giving the Red Wings a power play so late in the game.

"Everybody knows that Detroit has got a pretty good power play,'' he said. "And we put them on the power play late in the game. That's something you don't want to do and they capitalized on it.''

Datsyuk had given the Red Wings a 2-1 lead when he tipped in a cross-crease pass on a 2-on-1 break 2:56 into the second period.

Boyd Devereaux made the pass to Datsyuk from the right wing after falling and getting back to his feet as he carried the puck in the Dallas zone.

"I just tried to turn up ice too fast after Pavel got me the puck,'' he said with a smile. "It seemed to suck in the D a little bit. It was planned.''

But Mike Modano tied it 2-2 with just 8 seconds left in the second when he put in a rebound from the slot.

Curtis Joseph made 34 saves for Detroit and Marty Turco made 32 for Dallas.

Joseph stopped Jason Arnott's slap shot from the point in overtime and Turco thwarted Zetterberg in the extra session after he worked his way through the Stars' zone. Sergei Fedorov had two breakaway opportunities in overtime, but he shot wide on both.

Dahlen gave Dallas a 1-0 lead 5:49 in when he capitalized on Chris Chelios' giveaway and put a shot over Curtis Joseph from point-blank range.

Detroit tied it on Lidstrom's power-play goal at 7:57, with Morrow off for interference. Lidstrom scored his sixth goal of the season on a wrist shot from the lower-inside edge of the left circle.
