''They put us together and right from the very first game we
clicked,'' Hecht said. ''It looks like everybody knows what the
other guy is doing before he does it.''
Peter Forsberg scored twice, once on the power play, and Milan
Hejduk scored his 43rd goal for Colorado. Forsberg, who had never
scored a goal in four previous games in HSBC Arena, has seven
points in the past two games, and 18 goals and 66 points in the
last 41 games.
Briere had tied the game at 3 when he scored a power-play goal
with 7:19 left in regulation, ending Colorado's streak of killing
21 consecutive power plays.
Maxim Afinogenov also scored for Buffalo, which has been at the
bottom of the standings all season long.
Aebischer, playing in his 22nd game, stopped 31 shots. Buffalo
goaltender Martin Biron made 33 saves.
''You have to give them credit,'' Avalanche coach Tony Granato
said. ''They're done, but they certainly didn't play like it.''
After Adam Foote's slap shot from the point deflected off Alex
Tanguay and caromed off the end boards to Hejduk, he fired a slap
shot from the right wing past Biron 2:59 into the third to give
Colorado a 3-2 lead. The goal tied Hejduk with Ottawa's Marian
Hossa for third place in the league's goal-scoring race.
Forsberg tied it at 2 when he took a pass from Bryan Marchment
behind the net and put it past Biron in close for his 27th goal.
Hecht made it 2-1 when he tipped James Patrick's shot past
Aebischer for his eighth goal.
Colorado tied it at 1 on the power play with less than a minute
left in the first when Forsberg took a pass from the opposite point
at the edge of the right circle and beat Biron underneath the
Buffalo opened the scoring 17:18 into the first when Afinogenov
put in a rebound off a deflection by Jason Botterill for his fourth
goal of the year.
Sabres forward Adam Mair missed his second consecutive game with a
bruised right foot. ... Forward Paul Gaustad made his NHL debut after
Buffalo recalled him from Rochester of the AHL. The Sabres sent him
back down after the game, along with defenseman Doug Janik. ... Goalie Patrick
Roy has only played in two of Colorado's six games in HSBC Arena.
