CALGARY, Alberta (AP) -- The Calgary Flames have a shown a knack
for dramatic endings lately.
McAmmond picked up a loose puck along the boards in the Chicago
zone and skated toward the net, where he eluded a diving poke check
from goaltender Craig Anderson and tucked in a backhand.
"When I got the puck and looked up at the net, I didn't see
anything. I didn't see any other players at all other than the
goalie so I felt like I had a lot of time," said McAmmond, whose
scored his fifth this season.
Calgary won the first three games of its season-high six game
homestand with late goals.
"We've seen what it takes to score some goals and we've seen
what it takes to play good defense," McAmmond said. "We're doing
a lot of good things right now and we've just got to keep it up."
Steven Reinprecht also scored for Calgary. Reinprecht has goals
in three straight games, adding two assists during that stretch.
Kyle Calder had the lone goal for Chicago, winless in eight
"We've got to play 60 full minutes to win a hockey game and we
only played 59 minutes tonight and the one minute we let up, the
puck's in the back of the net," Calder said. "It's been a rough
couple of weeks, but we've got to battle through it."
Chicago forward Steve Sullivan echoed Calder's comments.
"It's disheartening and we've been losing games like this for
the last seven or eight games," Sullivan said.
Flames goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff made 24 saves to win his
second straight start since being acquired from San Jose on Sunday.
"The talk has been that he hasn't played for seven months but
he's very focused, he's hungry," Flames assistant coach Jim
Playfair said. "He's an important part of our team right now and
it's good for those players to feel confident with him in here."
Anderson played well and made 26 stops. He is winless both on
the season (0-3-0) and in his NHL career (0-6-2).
Calgary finally scored the game's first goal when Reinprecht
connected during a power play at 13:09 of the second period.
The lead disappeared 1:21 into the third when Calder benefited
from a creative setup from Sullivan.
Darting down the wing into the Flames zone, Sullivan suddenly
curled back toward the blue line and flipped a backhand pass into
the slot that Calder knocked in.<
