TAMPA, Fla. (AP) -- Rod Brind'Amour and Josef Vasicek scored 51 seconds apart in the third period to lead the Carolina Hurricanes to a 5-2 exhibition victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday night.

Brind'Amour made it 3-2 on a power-play goal with 12:31 left. Vasicek followed with his team-leading sixth preseason goal, then added his seventh with 1:10 to go.

Carolina's Matt Cullen opened the scoring with 2:32 remaining in the first period. Tampa Bay drew even 27 seconds later on a power-play goal by Ruslan Fedotenko.

The teams traded goals within a half-minute early in the second period. Niklas Nordgren scored shorthanded for the Hurricanes at 1:08 and Pavel Kubina answered 29 seconds later with another Lightning power-play goal.

Carolina outshot Tampa Bay 28-20 as Lightning goaltender Sean Burke lost for the second time in three decisions. Cam Ward improved to 2-1 for the Hurricanes, who finished the preseason at 5-2-1.
