Tomas Hertl medically cleared

SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Rookie winger Tomas Hertl of the San Jose Sharks was medically cleared to resume playing Friday after missing most of the season with a knee injury.

The Czech native was expected to be in the lineup Friday night against the Phoenix Coyotes.

Hertl needed surgery after being injured in a knee-on-knee collision with Kings captain Dustin Brown on Dec. 19. At the time, Hertl was leading all rookies in points with 25 in 35 games.

The Sharks will face off against the Kings in the opening round of the playoffs next week.
