Stars' Tyler Seguin out 3-4 weeks with Achilles injury

Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin will miss three to four weeks with a cut Achilles tendon, the team announced Friday.

According to the team, it's a 15 percent cut of the tendon. With that timeline, Dallas general manager Jim Nill said Seguin would return in time for the playoffs. Seguin underwent surgery Friday morning.

Seguin's Achilles tendon was cut during the third period of Thursday's 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. With about 20 seconds left in the game, Seguin came out to defend Tampa's Anton Stralman at the blue line, where the two briefly tangled, and it appears that was when Seguin was injured. He finished the game but was clearly in pain heading down the tunnel afterward.

The Stars are currently battling the St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks at the top of the Central division. Their final regular-season game is April 9, and the first day of the Stanley Cup playoffs is April 13.

Seguin has 33 goals and 73 points in 72 games. His 26 even-strength goals lead the NHL.
