Evgeni Malkin misses home opener
Malkin, who has a goal and an assist in two games, was injured Saturday night in a 5-3 win against Calgary.
"He has soreness and will not be available for tonight's game," Penguins coach Dan Bylsma said Tuesday morning. "We do not think it's long-term or anything other than just being sore at this point and time."
Sidney Crosby, who has been skating regularly with his teammates in non-contact situations, is scheduled to visit with his medical team sometime this week.
"I've pretty much been seeing a doctor weekly, anyway," Crosby said Tuesday after the morning skate. "It's not for any reason other than we were on the road for five days and usually he likes to check in every week or so."
Defenseman Brooks Orpik, who has not played yet as he recovers from offseason abdominal surgery, is "improving, but (he) thinks it's better to be off the ice for now," Bylsma said.
