The nightmare injury season of Mike Green got worse Monday with the announcement that the Washington Capitals star defenseman would require abdominal surgery and be out 4-6 weeks.
Green will undergo the surgery on Tuesday, a team spokesman told ESPN.com.
Green has been limited to only 10 games this season due to a lingering groin issue. Green had a career-high 76 points (19-57) in 2009-10 but played in only 49 games last season, missing time due to a concussion and a groin injury.
