Danny Briere, Nicklas Grossmann out
The Flyers, who were angry that the Penguins sent out their checking line late in the game, announced Monday they would be without Danny Briere and Nicklas Grossmann due to injuries sustained in the win.
Briere is out indefinitely with an upper back contusion, while Grossmann is expected to miss 7 to 10 days with what's being called a lower body injury, the Flyers said on the team's official Twitter page.
Briere was leveled on a hard check by the Penguins' Joe Vitale late in the third period, touching off a full-scale brawl that had Flyers coach Peter Laviolette and Penguins coach Dan Bylsma screaming at each other from their respective benches.
The NHL announced Monday that Laviolette was fined $10,000 for his role in the brawl. Pittsburgh assistant coach Tony Granato was fined $2,500 by the league.
Grossmann went to the Flyers' dressing room following a first-period collision -- also with Vitale -- and didn't return.
The Pennsylvania rivals, who appear headed for a first-round playoff grudge match, are now separated by one point in the Eastern Conference race, with the Penguins in fourth place and the Flyers in fifth. They finish the regular season against each other on Sunday in Pittsburgh.
