Lockout forces job cuts for Blues

ST. LOUIS -- The NHL players aren't the only ones out of work as a result of the lockout.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports the St. Louis Blues have laid off some of their front-office workers. The exact number wasn't announced, but the team says it is just under 20.

Some of the laid-off workers likely will be brought back if and when hockey season begins, said Bruce Affleck, the team's chief operating officer. However he did say some layoffs will be permanent, a decision of the team's new owners.

"We haven't guaranteed anybody will return," Affleck said.

The remaining 75 employees took pay cuts or have switched to four-day work weeks.

The Ottawa Senators and Florida Panthersalso have laid off front office staff since the lockout began last week.

Employees at the league office in New York have been reduced to four-day weeks.
