• Alex Ovechkin was the only player to reach 50 goals and won the scoring title with 90 points.• The Vancouver Canucks won the Presidents' Trophy with 120 points (57 wins).
• The Pittsburgh Penguins squeaked into the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
• After spending nearly half the season in the basement of the Western conference, the Detroit Red Wings earned the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference.
• The Toronto Maple Leafs make the playoffs for the first time since the 2003-04 season.
• The New York Islanders made the playoffs for the first time since the 2006-07 season.
• The Calgary Flames made the playoffs for the first time since the 2008-09 season.
