The Edmonton Oilers acquired veteran center Jerred Smithson from the Florida Panthers on Wednesday for a fourth-round draft pick.

Smithson has appeared in 35 games this season with the Panthers, recording two goals and three assists.

The 34-year-old Smithson figures to provide veteran depth and help in the faceoff circle for the Oilers (15-13-7), who entered Wednesday one point out of the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference standings.

A 10-year veteran, Smithson has won 55 percent of his faceoffs this season, the best mark on the Panthers.
