Boston Bruins Power Rankings - 2012-13
| Power Ranking | ||||
| WEEK | RECORD | RANK | COMMENT | |
| Week 15 | 28-14-6 | 8 | It was a disappointing end to a season that came with great expectations for a deep, talented team. All of that will be forgotten if they can flip that switch we know exists in the Bruins' locker room. | |
| Week 14 | 27-12-5 | 9 | The Bruins capped an emotional week with a 3-0 win over the Panthers on Sunday, halting a four-game winless streak and jumping into first in the Northeast. Milan Lucic drew back into the lineup after being a healthy scratch Saturday. No Nathan Horton, who was injured in a ridiculous fight with Jarome Iginla in Saturday's loss to Pittsburgh. | |
| Week 13 | 26-11-4 | 6 | Losses to the Islanders and Hurricanes prevented the B's from catching Montreal for first in the division, something so many of us have expected as a done deal before the end of the regular season. You start to ask yourself, will they win the division or not? | |
| Week 12 | 24-9-4 | 7 | The loss to Montreal on Saturday stopped a three-game winning streak for the B's. Difficulty with elite teams such as the Penguins and Canadiens has to be troubling when considering playoff possibilities. | |
| Week 11 | 22-8-4 | 6 | The Bruins got a much-needed two points to keep pace with Montreal (they are a point back with 14 games each to play) but a win over Buffalo was just their third in their past eight and that has allowed Ottawa and Toronto to close the gap in what is a surprisingly compelling Northeast Division. | |
| Week 10 | 20-7-3 | 5 | The B's have dropped three of four games, the offense suddenly running low with only six goals in those four games. | |
| Week 9 | 19-5-3 | 5 | The good news is that outside of games against the Penguins, the Bruins have a five-game winning streak. The bad news is that twin losses to Sidney Crosby and the Pens in less than a week have to be more than a little demoralizing for the Bruins. | |
| Week 8 | 16-3-3 | 3 | Four games in six days this week for the B's, including a juicy matchup Tuesday at red-hot Pittsburgh. | |
| Week 7 | 14-3-2 | 4 | The Bruins are still probably the best team in the Eastern Conference, as the loss to the Canadiens Sunday was only their third regulation loss of the season. | |
| Week 6 | 11-2-2 | 2 | Not sure what Burnside was smoking last week putting the Bruins fifth. The Bruins are the cream of the East, bar none. Only the fact that they've played fewer games is delaying their eventual ascent to first place. | |
| Week 5 | 9-2-2 | 5 | The Bruins dumped Winnipeg 3-2 Sunday and are 7-2-1 in their past 10 to jump over Montreal and back into first in the Northeast Division. Boston curiously ranks 29th on the power play but first overall on the penalty kill. | |
| Week 4 | 8-1-1 | 2 | Best 10-game start in the franchise history for the B's, who are the class of the East and look very much like the team that won it all in 2011. | |
| Week 3 | 6-1-1 | 3 | The Bruins remain the best team in the Eastern Conference with a 6-1-1 record. They bounced back nicely after an off night against Buffalo to shut out the surging Leafs 1-0 Saturday. | |
| Week 2 | 3-0-1 | 3 | The snarl is back, and so is the toughest team in the NHL. Man, these guys are intimidating. I picked the Rangers to come out of the East for the Cup finals, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the B's returned to their 2011 glory. | |
| Week 1 | 0-0-0 | 5 | Tuukka Rask and Anton Khudobin will face loads of pressure, but the Bruins will again ice a big, talented lineup. Watch for Tyler Seguin to take another big step forward. | |
| Preseason | 0-0-0 | 6 | The B's are hangover-free and, more importantly, Tim Thomas-free. Well, kind of. They still own his rights. GM Peter Chiarelli has done a wonderful job locking up the core of this team for years to come. They're going to give the Rangers and Penguins all they can handle in the East. | |
| Spring Training | 0-0-0 | 11 | Seems like a long time ago that the Bruins won the Cup, no? Bounced in the first round by the Caps last spring, the Bruins will be without Tim Thomas unless the lockout lasts an entire season. Otherwise, Tuukka Rask has to produce in Thomas' absence. With good to great balance up front and a perennial Norris candidate in Zdeno Chara, the Bruins should run away with the Northeast again. | |
