Change is slow. That's the message of watching the Oilers and Sabres go a combined 0-4 in spite of having top rookies Connor McDavid and Jack Eichel in their respective lineups. The Oilers look better defensively but have just one goal in two losses.
Who isn't pumped to see just how good Connor McDavid is going to be? And, really, that excitement extends to the entire Oilers team under new head coach Todd McLellan. If McDavid is as advertised and Cam Talbot can provide solid goaltending, meaningful games in January and February should be on the docket.
Hard to slot the new-look Oilers. Connor McDavid changes everything, but we're not sure on Andrej Sekera's six-year deal. New GM Peter Chiarelli had to start somewhere on the blue line, though, and Cam Talbot will bring stability in goal. Are the playoffs a stretch? Likely, but not much of one.
