Ottawa Senators Power Rankings - 2012-13

| WEEK | RECORD | RANK | COMMENT | |
| Week 15 | 25-17-6 | 16 | The Sens looked for a while as if they would slide right out of the playoff picture, but they found a foothold and will return to the postseason for the second straight year. The return of Erik Karlsson to the lineup in the final week was nothing short of remarkable after his Achilles tendon injury. | |
| Week 14 | 23-15-6 | 14 | The Senators had a four-game win streak snapped by Toronto on Saturday and remain in precarious seventh place in the East. They have an emotional game on tap Monday with Pittsburgh visiting, the first time the two teams will meet since Erik Karlsson's gruesome injury after getting tangled up with Matt Cooke. | |
| Week 13 | 21-14-6 | 16 | Give the Senators a lot of credit. Just when it appeared a five-game losing streak had sunk their season and the injury-riddled team finally hit the proverbial wall, Paul MacLean's team won two huge games (Thursday at Philadelphia and Friday at New Jersey) to bounce back. The Sens are four points out of the danger zone with seven games to play. | |
| Week 12 | 19-13-6 | 17 | The Senators have lost four in a row, including a disheartening 2-1 loss to Florida on Sunday. Is the much-anticipated Sens' collapse at hand? Can they avoid a slide right out of the top eight? | |
| Week 11 | 19-10-6 | 8 | The Sens were rocked at home by Toronto on Saturday, but they've won six of eight to cement themselves as a playoff team. Big test coming up, though, with a seven-game road trip that begins and ends with games in Boston against the Bruins. Yikes. | |
| Week 10 | 17-9-6 | 10 | The Senators just keep winning and winning and winning, despite all that top-end talent sitting in the medical ward. Running out of words to describe this accomplishment. | |
| Week 9 | 15-8-6 | 9 | The Senators continue to collect points and stave off the collapse most had expected given their injuries. They have only two regulation losses in their past 14 games, including back-to-back wins on the weekend over Buffalo and Winnipeg. That's a pretty good way to hang onto a playoff spot. | |
| Week 8 | 13-8-4 | 10 | We're running out of superlatives to explain how Paul MacLean, Daniel Alfredsson, Chris Phillips and the gang of kids are pulling this off without their top talent. AMAZING. | |
| Week 7 | 12-7-4 | 9 | Paul MacLean continues to keep his team in the hunt despite potentially crippling injuries. Winless in three, but still 5-1-3 in their past eight and collecting points is what it's all about at this stage for the banged-up Sens. | |
| Week 6 | 11-6-2 | 9 | Not sure how long we can keep ranking the Senators this high, but they deserve it, winners of four straight games and missing all their top players. Paul MacLean, we bow to you. | |
| Week 5 | 7-6-2 | 18 | The loss of Erik Karlsson is devastating and only exacerbated by owner Eugene Melnyk's idiotic comments about Matt Cooke. | |
| Week 4 | 6-4-2 | 18 | Shut out at home by Winnipeg on Saturday, the Senators will have to work much harder for their goals without Jason Spezza. But they can make the playoffs without him; there's enough depth. | |
| Week 3 | 5-3-1 | 10 | That's two losses in a row for the Senators since top center Jason Spezza went out long term with a back injury. They have managed just one goal in those two losses, so there's no question about the impact of Spezza's absence. | |
| Week 2 | 3-1-1 | 11 | After a perfect 3-0-0 start, the Senators were cooled off with losses in Tampa and at home to Pittsburgh. But Craig Anderson is bringing it, leading all NHL goalies with a 0.73 GAA and .975 SP. | |
| Week 1 | 0-0-0 | 18 | The surprise trip to the playoffs last season will be a tough act to follow, as will an equally surprising Norris Trophy win for dynamic blueliner Erik Karlsson. Still, they hit the jackpot with Paul MacLean, a finalist for coach of the year. | |
| Preseason | 0-0-0 | 13 | The natural reaction is for a young team that surprised last season to regress a little this year. And that may very well happen. But they'll be in the playoff hunt nevertheless. | |
| Spring Training | 0-0-0 | 17 | Its possible last season's surprise vault into the playoffs where they narrowly failed to knock off the top-seeded Rangers was a blip on the radar. But Paul MacLean, a Jack Adams nominee as coach of the year, is the real deal and so is Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson. | |
