Kenya's Nderitu wins Greater Hartford Marathon

HARTFORD, Conn. -- Joseph Nderitu of Kenya won the Greater Hartford Marathon in event-record time Saturday, despite going off course during the 18th mile.

Nderitu finished in 2 hours, 16 minutes, 52 seconds, breaking Simon Peter's 1997 course record by 7 seconds. Nderitu outkicked 19-year-old Kassahun Kawiso of Ethiopia in the final 800 yards to win. Kawiso finished 5 seconds behind.
