GIUBIASCO, Switzerland -- Robbie McEwen won the fifth stage of the Tour de Suisse in a sprint finish Wednesday, and Franck Schleck kept the leader's yellow jersey.
McEwen edged Daniele Bennati to win the 119.8-mile stage from Vaduz, Liechtenstein, to Giubiasco in 4 hours, 55 minutes, 40 seconds. Erik Zabel of Germany was third.
The stage was marked by a lengthy breakaway by Rubens Bertogliati and Laurens Ten Dam. After other failed breakaway attempts, Bertogliati and Ten Dam succeeded 17.5 miles into the stage, building a nine-minute lead at the summit at Flims.
Schleck leads overall with a time of 19:28:03. Vladimir Efimkin of Russia is second, 49 seconds back. Kim Kirchen of Luxembourg is third in the same time.
The sixth stage takes riders from Giubiasco to Crans Montana.
