Kuzkin dies; won three gold medals with Soviets

ZURICH, Switzerland -- Viktor Kuzkin, a three-time Olympic champion, died after a diving accident earlier this week, the International Ice Hockey Federation said. He was 67.

Kuzkin won gold medals with the Soviet Union teams at three Winter Olympics, in 1964, 1968, and 1972, and eight world championships.

The Moscow-born defenseman played 169 times for the then-USSR, scoring 18 goals, and was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2005.

The IIHF said Kuzkin died Tuesday of heart failure following a diving accident at the Black Sea resort of Sochi in Russia, which will host the 2014 Winter Olympics.
