Brazil reaches women's volleyball semis

NAGOYA, Japan -- Top-ranked Brazil defeated Germany in straight sets Tuesday to reach the semifinals at the women's volleyball world championship.

The Olympic champions remained unbeaten in the tournament with the 25-16, 25-13, 25-21 victory. Natalia Pereira and Sheilla Castro led the way for Brazil, finishing with 20 and 16 points, respectively.

Defending champion Russia also secured a spot in the semifinals with a 25-19, 25-8, 25-12 win over Serbia.

The United States, which has only one loss, beat the Netherlands 25-17, 25-22, 25-18 to improve its chances of qualifying for the semifinals.
