Demong of U.S. captures Nordic finale

VIKERSUND, Norway -- Bill Demong of the United States has won the final Nordic combined event of the season and Anssi Koivuranta of Finland has clinched the overall title with an eighth-place finish.

Demong finished Sunday's individual Gundersen event, which began with a ski jump and ended with a 10-kilometer cross-country ski race, in 26 minutes, 31.6 seconds.

The 28-year-old from Vermontville, N.Y., finished third overall.

Magnus Moan of Norway was runner-up to Koivuranta after finishing 13th on Sunday.

Petter Tande was 9.8 seconds behind Demong in second place followed by fellow Norwegian Mikko Kokslien, 10.3 back.
