Premier: 'All Greeks worked together'

ATHENS, Greece -- Athens is ready to host "wonderful"
Summer Olympics, the result of a united effort by Greeks throughout
the country, Premier Costas Caramanlis said Friday.

"All Greeks worked together with faith and vision," Caramanlis
said after touring the media center at the Olympic complex a week
before the games.

He was accompanied by Jacques Rogge, International Olympic
Committee president; Gianna Angelopoulos-Daskalaki, chief
organizer; and Fani Palli-Petralia, culture minister.

Greece got off to a slow start preparing for the Olympics
because of political infighting and bureaucracy. Now organizers are
finishing last-minute details, such as landscaping.

Caramanlis said, "The message of modern Greece, a message of
peace, a message of humanity, message of culture," will be
transmitted all over world during the games.
