Manfred Moelgg's Achilles ruptures

BRUNICO, Italy -- Italian skier Manfred Moelgg could miss the entire Alpine skiing season because of serious right leg injury.

The Italian ski federation says the 32-year-old Moelgg had surgery after rupturing his right Achilles tendon in training. The federation says he intends to return to competitive racing.

Moelgg won bronze in the giant slalom at the 2013 world championships, a race won by Ted Ligety of the United States. Ligety is favored to retain his world title in February ...
