LaShawn Merritt to run 500m at Millrose
NEW YORK -- Olympic champion LaShawn Merritt will stretch a bit farther from his signature event, running the 500 meters at Millrose Games.
Organizers announced Tuesday that Merritt will compete in the race on Feb. 11 in New York. He won the gold in the 400 and 1,600 relay at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
He's attempting to break the world indoor record in the 500. In 1994, Mark Everett set the Millrose Games mark in the 500 in 1:01.19.
