Gymnast Jonathan Horton recovering
HOUSTON -- American gymnast Jonathan Horton is recovering from surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left foot.
Horton had an MRI when he returned to Houston after the 2011 world championships in Tokyo and his doctor recommended surgery. The recovery time is expected to be about four months.
The 25-year-old Horton was injured Oct. 20 during the team finals at worlds when he had a short landing on his vault. The U.S. men's team went on to win the team bronze medal, the Americans' first team medal at worlds since 2003.
While Horton used the word "disappointed" when discussing the injury, he says the situation could become a "blessing in disguise."
"I think I will be a stronger gymnast because of this," he said.
