Ivica Kostelic to have knee surgery
ZAGREB, Croatia -- Overall World Cup leader Ivica Kostelic will have surgery Monday after partially tearing cartilage in his right knee during his super-combined victory in Russia a day earlier.
The Croatian ski association did not say when Kostelic will return, but the injury is a big blow in his bid to retain the overall title.
The operation will be done in Basel, Switzerland. The ski association said an MRI scan Monday in Croatia showed the severity of the damage.
Kostelic has a 70-point lead over Beat Feuz of Switzerland in the overall standings. He clinched the super-combined title with Sunday's victory.
