Olivier Jean wins 500 worlds gold
SHANGHAI -- Olivier Jean of Canada won gold in the men's 500-meter race Saturday at the world short-track speedskating championships.
Jean won in 41.077 seconds and teammate Charles Hamelin was second in 41.186. South Korean skater Kwak Yoon-gy took third with a time of 41.479.
China's Fan Kexin won the women's 500 in 44.438, 0.29 seconds ahead of Italy's Arianna Fontana. Lana Gehring of the United States was third in 44.815.
Six championship races will be held Sunday when the 1,000- and 3,000-meter men's and women's races and relays over 3,000 meters for women and 5,000 for men are contested.
