Blunck, Sigourney get closer to Sochi
COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. -- Aaron Blunck won the U.S. Grand Prix halfpipe skiing contest Friday night to edge closer to a spot at the Sochi Olympics.
The 17-year-old from Crested Butte, Colo., scored 92.0 points to add this to a second-place finish at last week's Dew Tour.
Those results at the first two selection events virtually guaranteed him a spot on the U.S. team.
Simon Dumont, the two-time X Games halfpipe champion who pulled out last week with a concussion, finished fifth.
Brita Sigourney won the women's event to move closer to securing her spot, as well. She finished third last week.
Maddie Bowman, who won last week, finished second and is in good position for one of the three women's spots on the U.S. team.
