U.S. women to face France in opener
WEMBLEY, England -- The United States women's soccer team has been grouped with France, Colombia and North Korea in the opening round of the Olympic tournament at the 2012 London Games.
The U.S., the defending Olympic champions from the 2008 Beijing Games, was placed in Group G. According to FIFA's website, they will play France in their opening match. France finished fourth in the 2011 Women's World Cup.
The opening Group G matches are slated for July 25 at Hampden Park in Glasgow, according to FIFA's website.
Great Britain was drawn into Group E and will play New Zealand at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium on July 25.
Japan, the 2011 Women's World Cup champions, were paired with Canada, Sweden, and South Africa in Group F.
