U.S. women sweep diving podium
KAZAN, Russia -- Americans Rachelle Simpson, Ginger Huber and Cesilie Carlton swept the top three spots Sunday in the inaugural FINA High Diving World Cup. American Steven Lobue earned a bronze in the men's competition.
Simpson, from Sulphur, Louisiana, won the 20-meter competition with 216.00 points. She earned 86.70 on her second of three dives, which was the highest score of anyone in the women's contest.
Huber, from Atlanta, was second with 191.60. Carlton, from San Antonio, took third with 571.70.
In the men's 27-meter contest, Orlando Duque of Colombia won with 601.20. Gary Hunt of Britain earned silver at 580.05.
LoBue, a former Purdue diver from Ewing, New Jersey, totaled 571.70. He went into the final round in first place.
