Caitlin Leverenz wins 200 IM
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Caitlin Leverenz held off Olympic champion Stephanie Rice of Australia to win the 200-meter individual medley at the Santa Clara Grand Prix on Sunday night.
Leverenz touched in 2 minutes, 10.81 seconds, while Rice took second at 2:11.18. Leverenz moved ahead of Rice on the breaststroke leg and held steady over the final 50 meters of freestyle. Madeline Dirado was third at 2:13.70. In the 400 IM on Saturday, Rice won and Leverenz was second.
Canada's Scott Dickens won the 100 breast in 1:00.69. Glenn Snyders of New Zealand was second at 1:01.44 and Olympic champion Kosuke Kitajima of Japan was third in 1:01.56 on the final night of the season's last Grand Prix meet.
Ken Takakuwa of Japan won the 200 IM in 2:00.55 ahead of countryman Yuya Horihata, who touched in 2:01.44.
