Camille Muffat sets world record
ANGERS, France -- Olympic gold medalist Camille Muffat set a short-course world record in the 800-meter freestyle at the French swimming championships Friday.
Muffat finished in a time of 8 minutes, 1.06 seconds during the heats in the 25-meter pool in Angers, breaking the previous mark of 8:04.53 set by Italian swimmer Alessia Filippi at the European championships in 2008.
Muffat's performance came a day after two-time Olympic gold medalist Yannick Agnel set a short-course world record time of 3:32.25 in the 400-meter free at the same meet.
At the London Games last summer in a long-course, 50-meter pool, Muffat won gold in the 400 freestyle, silver in the 200 free and bronze in the 4x200 freestyle relay.
