CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Olympians Connor Jaeger and Katie Ledecky won their respective distance races on the opening night of the Arena Grand Prix swim meet in Charlotte.
Jaeger cruised to victory in the 800-meter freestyle on Thursday in a meet-record time of 7 minutes, 53.35 seconds, nearly 10 seconds ahead of runner-up Matias Koski of Finland. He touched in 8:03.05. Zane Grothe was third in 8:04.17.
Ledecky won the 1,500 free in 16:04.58, a career-best and meet-record time for the teenager. Two-time Olympian Chloe Sutton was second in 16:07.83, and Kristel Kobrich of Chile was third in 16:08.08.
The meet continues through Sunday at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center.
