Krejci scores winner in OT to send Czechs past Latvia
Updated: February 24, 2010, 1:11 AM ET
The Czech Republic bounced back from a late game-tying goal by Latvia and a first-period injury to Jaromir Jagr to win in overtime on Tuesday and advance to a quarterfinal matchup with Finland.
David Krejci scored at the 5:10 mark in overtime to boost the Czech team and end the upset bid of the Latvians. They reached overtime on a goal from Mikelis Redlihs with just under four minutes left in regulation.
With a spot in the quarters, the Czechs turn their attention to Jagr. He left in the first period with what the team termed an upper-body injury.
Jagr played seven shifts in 6:03 in that first period before being hit by Latvian defenseman Janis Sprukts in a clearing attempt. He did not return to the game.
Krejci added a first-period assist, and Tomas Fleischmann also had a goal and an assist for the Czechs.
Edgars Masalskis made 47 saves on 50 Czech shots in falling to 0-4. Tomas Vokoun had 24 saves for the Czechs.
