SOCHI, Russia -- The Swedes were without top center Nicklas Backstrom in Sunday's gold-medal game against Canada.

Backstrom, of the Washington Capitals, was listed on the official score sheet prior to the game but did not skate in warm-ups. His place in the lineup was taken by defenseman Henrik Tallinder.

It's not clear why Backstrom was unable to play.

Backstrom had been playing with Daniel Sedin and Loui Eriksson on Sweden's top line. He had zero goals and four assists in five games during the tournament.
