Christy Ball

Growing up in Muncie, Indiana, it was a long way to the bonefish flats of the tropics or the fabled trout streams of the West. Christy Ball knew early on that she had an inordinate love of nature, but it was not until later in life that she had the opportunity to teach herself the skills of the outdoors. And what a student she became! From her first trout outing on the Snake River in Wyoming, she Knew that this was the life that she wanted to pursue. When she discovered the thrills of bonefishing in the Cayman Islands, the die was cast. She moved to Wyoming to become one of the first female guides in the Rockies, and made it a point to spend her winters exploring the tropical waters on the flats of Florida, the Bahamas, and exotic locations in the Pacific.

Christy brings a rich enthusiasm to the study of the outdoors, from learning to build a fire with only one match, tying innovative fly patterns that not only look good but catch fish, to stalking a wary trout on a silent spring creek. All things above and below the water make such a colorful tapestry in our perception of the natural world, and no one is more observant than Christy. Her skills with a driftboat or skiff are exceptional. She is a patient and intuitive instructor. Whether you are a beginner or expert, gradeschooler or grandmother, you will find that there is nothing quite like a day on the water with this woman.

Christy's desire to know everything about the outdoors makes her the perfect co-host for Cumberland Stories.
